Looking forward, drones can be used to haul spare parts and tools from onshore warehouses directly to an offshore wind turbine's nacelle. This is both meant to reduce the need for cranes, shorten journey time for technicians sailing out to installations – and to make drones a central part of the offshore wind supply chain, according to OEMs Vestas and Siemens Gamesa as well as facility owners Ørsted and Vattenfall.
