US starts next offshore wind phase under shadow of political crisis
Next month will see the site lease auction held for the 2,000km2 New York Bight area with the aim of adding up to 7GW of US offshore wind capacity, but major sums of planned subsidy are still hanging by a thread. "We're at an inflection point," says interior secretary.

On Feb. 23, a long-awaited step will be taken for US offshore wind. Auctioning off more than six sites in New York State and New Jersey waters – the area called New York Bight – will lay the foundation for what public authorities estimate could become 5.6-7GW offshore wind capacity.
