Ørsted has joined the joint venture for floating wind energy set up by Simply Blue Group and Subsea 7.

The Salamander project, which the Danish utility sees as a ”stepping stone project for floating wind”, is scheduled for development off the east coast of Scotland.

Salamander will provide the Scottish supply chain with an early opportunity for capacity development before larger Scotwind projects get underway, informs Ørsted.

”The project will deploy innovative and cutting-edge floating offshore wind technologies to support the cost reduction and learning journey needed for the commercial deployment of floating offshore wind,” writes Ørsted in a press release.

Ørsted will hold an 80-percent stake in the project as Simply Blue Group’s most recent joint venture partner next to minority partner Subsea 7.

Simply Blue Group is an Irish developer of floating offshore wind, wave energy and low-impact aquaculture systems.
