US turbine maker GE and Danish start-up Cobod are expanding their partnership, with the former now buying a minority stake in the latter.
”I am extremely proud that such an iconic and world class company like GE would like to partner with Cobod, and help us deliver on the automated construction solutions of the future,” says Cobod founder Henrik Lund-Nielsen
The two companies have been in business together since 2019, and the new investment is intended to provide GE with further access to Cobod’s technology.
Cobod 3D-prints various construction solutions and have spent the past three years partnering with GE to focus on developing onsite production of turbines.
”This agreement, which will further strengthen our ability to use Cobod’s 3D printing technology and competences in the renewable energy space, is another sign of our commitment to help drive the energy transition by investing in technology that promotes a more sustainable, circular design strategy and helps to create local jobs,” says GE Renewable Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Leader Matteo Bellucci.
Aside from wind turbines, Cobod’s technology is also focused on structures for buildings and concrete constructions for the oil and gas industry.
