Vestas is introducing a new turbine for its 4MW platform. The new model, V163-4.5MW, is suited for medium to low wind speeds, the Danish turbine manufacturer notes in a press release.

The new model sweeps an area which is 18% bigger than the V150-4.5MW turbine and, depending on the location of the wind farm, is able to deliver annual energy production that is 10% higher than that of the V150-4.5MW model.

”The V163-4.5 MW improves business case certainty for our customers, and as it is built on one of the world’s most installed wind turbine platforms with a well-established global supply chain, it allows us to realize the full value of the investments made by Vestas and our suppliers through extending our technology lifecycles,” says Chief Technology Officer of Vestas Anders NIelsen, according to the press release.

The turbine can be set up globally, but is considered especially relevant for use in parts of the US, Latin America, South Africa, and Southern Europe, where wind speeds go well with the design.
