In 2023, Portugal plans to award licenses for 6–8GW of offshore wind capacity, or twice as much as hitherto plans for 3–4GW, write several media including Renews and Offshorewind.biz, referencing Portuguese Minister of Energy João Galamba reportedly having revealed these plans at an offshore wind conference in Hamburg, Germany.

Galamba said the tender will be more complex that others on account of entailing plans to industrialize ports. For this reason, the country's government has decided to postpone the process until net year.

The plan had been to start the auction, the nation's first offshore wind solicitation, as soon as this summer.

Moreover, Galamba is said to have informed about Portugal's government having met with Ørsted, Iberdrola, EDP/Engie, and several undisclosed German players to discuss the offshore wind build-out.
