Heavy NKT investment pending major order

Before even taking the latest production expansion into use, the Danish cable maker is considering the option of building out still further. A major incoming order could trigger investment either in the Swedish factory – or an entirely new plant in Europe.

Being a first mover is typically angled as a positive thing. That, however, is not equally true during periods of economic hardship, for instance those that have burdened the wind industry’s value chain in recent years. In the case of Danish cable manufacturer NKT, such troublesome times began as far back as 2011, after which the group has presented operating deficits in nearly every financial report of the decade, also showing an accumulated operating loss exceeding DKK 2.5bn (EUR 340m).
