Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) teams up with Norwegian NorSea and Belgian Parkwind in dedicated efforts towards floating offshore wind projects in Norway, the company discloses in a statement.

The first item on the agenda is the Utsira Nord tender in 2023, initially offering a 1.5GW capacity.

”CIP, with their experience, forward-leaning renewable technologies, and financial capacity, will further strengthen our partnership and bring capabilities that will help ensure a high quality and competitive application and development of Utsira Nord,” statement cites CEO with NorSea impact Kristin Gjertsen.

CIP Partner Nischal Agarwal welcomes the new alliance.

”It will substantially strengthen our foothold in Norway and provide us with a strong platform to aid the development and growth of the Norwegian offshore wind industry over the next decade as well as the creation of local industry, innovation, and local jobs,” he says.

CIP managed to bring on Norwegian pension fund KLP as a strategic co-investor to help secure a strong anchor point, the statement reads.

”As a large Norwegian institutional investor, we are eager to help develop new sources of renewable energy that we expect will deliver attractive returns to our owners, mainly Norwegian public sector entities and their employees. We have for a number of years been a limited partner in CIP’s funds and we have strong confidence in them as a partner,” says KLP CFO Aage Schaaning.

The partnership aims to aid Norway in achieving its net-zero emissions target by 2050 because the country has pledged to establish 30GW offshore wind power by 2040.
