For quite some time, things have been quiet surrounding Australian 1.2GW wind project Forest Wind, which was off to a good start back in 2019 after being advanced as an exclusive transaction in the state of Queensland. Since then, however, there have been little progress of note.

Though construction was slated to begin in 2021, it was delayed in May of that year until 2022, perhaps even early 2023, according to some reports. Yet, the project has made much progress since the planning stage.

There is change in the air, however, as development no longer seems completely stagnant following Australian project developer Tilt Renewables’ purchase of a 50% stake in the project.

”The Forest Wind team will draw on Tilt’s delivery experience to finalize the required approvals and get the project ready for construction,” reads an update on Forest Wind’s website.

Ownership of the onshore wind farm has so far been split 50-50 between original developer Cleansight and Siemens Financial Services. The update does not include information on the new division of ownership. EnergyWatch has reached out to Siemens Financial Services, which has yet to reply.

Even if the German financing branch decided to divest, it won’t scrub Siemens’ signature from the project, which had Siemens Gamesa tapped as supplier of 226 wind turbines from the get-go.

There is no word in the press release on when construction will begin, nor when commissioning is expected, though the update on Forest Wind’s website informs that ”further updates on these next steps, key dates and activities will be available soon.”
