RWE wins Australian tender on energy storage

The company aims at expanding its battery storage portfolio by 3GW in 2030.

German energy company RWE wins tender for a battery storage project in the Australian state of New South Wales.

The 50MW project brings RWE one step closer to fulfilling its ambition of a portfolio containing 3GW of battery storage in 2030, the company writes in a press release.

The project will be placed next to RWE’s existing solar cell farm, Limondale Solar Farm, with a 249MW capacity. The project still awaits a final investment decision to pass within the coming 12 months.

RWE supports New South Wales’ ambition and appreciates the dedication shown by the government in policy design and the professionalism of Australian Energy Market Operator Services Limited in implementation which enables the market to invest with confidence,” says Katja Wünschel, CEO of Onshore/PV Europe & Australia, RWE, in the press release, adding:

”This success creates further momentum working towards a sustainable future in our core market Australia. In a renewables world, battery storages are key for are liable, secure and sustainable electricity supply. We have been operating in New South Walesfor some years, and now we are keen to develop a battery project that is exemplary, both technically and environmentally — hand in hand with local communities.”
