A new market possibility is shaping up for companies like Vestas, Siemens Gamesa and other suppliers in Kazakhstan, as UAE energy developer Masdar signs a roadmap for development of a 1GW wind power plant.

The agreement was signed by four parties in connection to Astana International Forum, writes Renews.biz.

”Masdar is very excited about its first project in Kazakhstan. We aim to deliver a world-class wind plant and battery energy storage system that will support the country’s energy transition and advance its net zero ambitions,” says Masdar chief exec Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, adding:

”We welcome the signing of the project roadmap which further strengthens our relationship with Kazakhstan and demonstrates our commitment to helping the Kazakh government achieve its clean energy objectives.”

Kazakhstan aims for net-zero in 2060 and targets 50% renewable energy generation by 2050.

In 2018, Vestas bagged its first contract in Kazakhstan and the Danish OEM has installed 20 wind turbines in the country of a combined 100MW capacity.
