The United Arab Emirates, one of the world’s top oil producers and the somewhat controversial host of COP28 later this year, plans to invest USD 54bn in renewable energy, tripling its capacity, Recharge News reports.

”Over the last decade, the UAE has increased renewable energy capacity more than any other country in the world, and by 2030 aims to more than triple this capacity again to reach a total of 14.2GW,” Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE’s minister of industry and advanced technology, said at a press conference.

The UAE has, among other things, the large Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is planned to reach a 5GW capacity by the end of the decade.

Abu Dhabi-based developer Masdar also has a goal of quintupling its capacity from 20GW to 100GW by 2030 and producing 1 million tonnes of clean hydrogen in the same year.
