British BP is the big winner in a German wind auction for the construction of 7GW of wind farms in the North and Baltic Seas.

Here, a consortium led by the British company has drawn the longest straw and is awarded 4GW divided into two wind farms, according to Recharge News.

TotalEnergies wins the remaining 3GW.

Ørsted tells Marketwire that it participated in the auction but did not win a part of the tender.

”Together with our partner BASF, we bid on some of the offshore wind sites in Germany, which we continue to see as a key strategic market for us. In the coming years, more offshore wind capacity will be put up for tender than ever before in our core European markets, and we will continue to pursue the right opportunities while following our value creation criteria,” says Rasmus Errboe, Regional Director Europe at Ørsted, in a written comment, adding:

”We’re particularly looking forward to assessing future opportunities in Germany together with our partner BASF.”

The offshore auction is described as the largest in Germany’s history, generating EUR 12.6bn for the state.
