After around 27 years as owner of Semco Maritime, owner C.W. Obel is considering divesting some of the Esbjerg-based subcontractor to the energy industry, reports the Danish business daily Børsen.

According to Børsen’s information, the C.W. Obel family has collaborated with the corporate finance advisor FIH Partners in connection with exploring the possibilities of selling all or part of Semco Maritime.

The owner currently holds 90% of Semco Maritime.

Neither Semco Maritime nor C.W. Obel will comment on the divestment rumors, the two companies inform Børsen.

Blazing forward

Semco has been growing rapidly recently. The company has high ambitions and aims to reach revenue of DKK 6bn (EUR 805m) in 2027.

The explanation for the success can be found in the strategy that was laid out way back in 2016. Semco made a decision to broaden its spectrum even further, so that the first-born child of oil and gas would be joined by renewable energy.

The latter has also gained much more momentum in recent years, and it is especially the renewable energy segment that has taken the biggest leap in 2022, as revenue hit DKK 1.18bn. This is approximately a doubling compared to the previous year.
