The outlook for Vestas’ core markets in Europe is positive, and the wind turbine manufacturer’s CEO, Henrik Andersen, repeats last year’s prediction that Australia is also getting back on track.

”I think it looks good. We have some markets that are in good shape, including our core markets in the EU, where Germany is of course one of the big ones. We’ve also seen the UK change positively and I’ll dare say once again that Australia is going to pick up - we’ll see if I’m right this time. These are some of the core markets I’m keeping an eye on,” says Andersen in an interview with MarketWire.

In the US, things are also ”going great”, as the chief exec puts it. Here, orders came pouring in during the fourth quarter. Of the record-breaking 8,248 megawatts of orders received in the fourth quarter, 4.6 gigawatts came from the US alone.

”When you take so many orders in a fourth quarter - more than 4 gigawatts from the US alone - we have to go through the next negotiations, which will come during the year,” says Andersen about the prospects of more orders from that direction.

In the first quarter, Vestas also received a couple of good US orders totaling 707 megawatts - and the total order intake for the quarter ended at 2,300 megawatts.

”2.3 gigawatts is a good order intake in the first quarter, considering how busy we were with the order intake before New Year. And we are happy to have a turbine contract pricing of EUR 0.97m per megawatt for the quarter. This is stable at what we think is a good level,” says Andersen.
