Trump to stop offshore wind in New Jersey "from day 1" if he wins US election
Former and possibly future US President Donald Trump has once again spoken out against wind power development in the US.
This time his comments were directed at plans to build offshore wind projects off the coast of New Jersey, which he will stop immediately if elected president, according to Recharge News.
”You don’t have to worry about Governor Murphy’s 157 wind turbines,” he said in a speech at the Wildwood tourist destination on Saturday, apparently referring to Shell-EDF’s 1.5GW Atlantic Shores project in the state.
He was invited to speak by Congressman Jeff Van Drew, who is a major opponent of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s offshore wind energy development program.
Murphy has set a goal for the state to install 11 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2040.
”We want to make sure it ends on day one. I’m going to write it out in an executive order,” Trump said, according to Recharge News.
New Jersey has contracted for 3.7 gigawatts of offshore wind, but does not yet have any turbines in operation.
