MTS Svejseservice, which for many years has been known as ”the oil companies’ local blacksmith in Esbjerg”, is changing its name following the takeover of the company by Engineered Market Solutions (EMS), which is also based in Esbjerg.

A couple of years ago, the welding and steel specialist EMS launched a strategic investment in wind, oil, gas and PTX.

In connection with the acquisition, which took effect on June 1, 2024, MTS will change its name to EMS.

EMS will also take over all machines, welding procedures, customer portfolio and two specialized Inconel welders, a sought-after competence in welding in the offshore industry, EMS writes in an announcement.

”In recent years, EMS has invested heavily in becoming a total supplier of engineering, production and services to the energy industry,” says Kenneth Hagelskjær, CEO of EMS.

The acquisition of MTS Svejseservice builds on this strategic investment.

”MTS has a good name in the offshore industry as a specialist in Inconel cladding, which is used to extend the service life of valves and gasket surfaces in corrosive environments. These are competencies that fit in really well with us and will enable us to handle even more complex welding tasks,” he says in the announcement.

Wants more international customers

In recent years, EMS has expanded its facilities in Esbjerg with two new production facilities and new administration. In this connection, EMS has also significantly expanded its workforce.

Including the sister company Global Gravity, which is behind the TubeLock system for handling drill pipes in the oil industry, the company currently employs over 120 people.

The engineering department in particular has been strengthened to handle the increasing complexity of projects.

The many new hands will be used to acquire even more new customers.

”We have a clear ambition to gain more international customers. The acquisition of MTS adds an extra leg to the business, which will make us better able to attract projects from abroad, for example through our strong offshore network in Norway,” explains Kenneth Hagelskjær.

”At the same time, we see growth potential in the fact that whereas MTS has often used subcontractors, we can to a greater extent handle the entire task in-house.”

MTS Svejseservice A/S was established in 1999 by Michael T. Sørensen. MTS, now EMS, currently employs four people.
