Microsoft and European Energy have signed a series of power purchase agreements (PPAs) where the former will purchase power from a portfolio of wind and solar farms in Sweden and Denmark.

The agreements cover more than 3.6 TWh during the contract period, according to European Energy, without revealing exactly how long the agreements will last. However, an announcement states that these are ”long-term agreements”.

We are excited that Microsoft has committed itself to driving forward the green transition. The roll-out of renewable power is dependent on major stakeholders dedicating themselves to buying the renewable electricity that is being produced from these assets, which require substantial capital investments,” said Jens-Peter Zink, Deputy CEO of European Energy.

At Microsoft, the PPAs play into the company’s ambition and goal to meet all of its energy needs with renewable power by 2025 and be carbon negative by 2030.

”“Having reliable partners who can deliver is critical for achieving our carbon negative goals.” says Adrian Anderson, General Manager of Renewables, Carbon Free Energy and Carbon Dioxide Removal at Microsoft.
