UK conglomerate will install 178 MW Scottish wind farm

Hydro and wind power will join forces in a new, subsidy-free project made up of 54 turbines and relying heavily on local production.

GFG Alliance will install a 178 MW offshore wind farm in Glenshero, Scotland. The project will consist of up to 54 turbines and follow up on a GBP 170 million investment program, reveals the British conglomerate.

The company has promised high local involvement on several fronts. Steel for the turbine towers will be rolled at a local plant in Motherwell, while the tower structures will be produced at CS Wind's' newly established factory in Machrihanish. GFG Alliance will also offer local ownership of the project and a discount on power generated by the turbines to surrounding areas.
