Boskalis has won its largest cable installation contract ever.

The contract is awarded by German company 50 Hertz and includes offshore grid connection Ostwind 2. The contract is valued over EUR 250 million, making it the largest ever in the field for Boskalis, according to a press release from the Dutch towage and marine group.

"We are very proud to have been selected for this contract, the largest cable installation contract ever for Boskalis," said Boskalis CEO Peter Berdowski.

For Boskalis, the contract will be fulfilled in consortium with partner NKT which delivers the cable system. Specifically, the Dutch carrier will focus on preparation of the seabed, transport and installation of the cables together with reestablishment of the seabed.

The work involves design and installation of an approximately 250 kilometer long export cable, which will connect the two planned wind turbine farms Arcadis Ost 1 and Baltic Eagle for an onshore station in Lubmin, Germany. The project is expected to commence in 2019 and conclude at the end of 2022, says the press release.

Boskalis recently announced that it expects a "significantly better" result in the second half than the USD 34.5 million earned by the company in the first six months of the year. However, it will not exceed the level from the second half of last year where the company earned USD 75 million.
