Wintershall has acquired ten percent of the gas field Ghasha Concession, which consists of several gas fields and condensates at sea, making up the largest undeveloped area in the United Arab Emirates, announces Wintershall in a press release.

Earlier in November Italian company ENI reported that it had acquired a 25 percent share and similar to Wintershall reported having landed a 40-year contract with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

"Development of the Ghasha concession area is a strategic priority for ADNOC. The gas, extracted from the concession area, at commercial rates, will make a significant contribution to fulfilling our commitment to ensuring a sustainable and economic gas supply, and achieving our objective of gas selfsufficiency for the UAE," said Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and ADNOC Group CEO.

According to the press release, the first production will begin in the middle of the next decade with a production forecast of 120,000 barrels of oil and condensates when the project is complete.
