Appeals board criticizes practice used in development of Danish energy projects

A Danish municipality will now change its procedure when asking how much developers will contribute to a local development fund for renewable energy projects.
”Det er ikke noget, vi har drøftet politisk endnu, men jeg tænker, at vi vil justere og ændre vores fremgangsmåde,” siger Jørgen Popp Petersen, borgmester i Tønder Kommune. | Photo: Janus Engel

It is in violation of the Danish law on planning when Tønder Municipality in Southern Denmark asks whether developers will donate money to a local development fund when they apply to set up renewable energy projects in the municipality, according to a recently published statement from the Danish National Appeals Board (Ankestyrelsen), which has scrutinized the municipality’s processing of applications for renewable energy projects.
