
Vattenfall has begun planning the future for Horns Rev 1. The offshore wind farm's calculated lifespan of 20 years will expire in 2022 and the subsidies are slowly starting to run out.
The Swedish utility, which owns 60 percent of the farm and handles operations, is weighing whether to extend the life of the farm's 80 Vestas turbines or to take them down – possibly to make room for a repowering project with no subsidies, says Vattenfall's Country Manager for Denmark, Micheal Simmelsgaard, to Danish media Berlingske.
