Prysmian has secured a contract worth EUR 1.2bn from Neuconnect for the first direct transmission line between Britain and Germany.

The deal is of the turnkey variety, entailing design, manufacturer, installation, testing and commissioning of a 725 kilometer subsea power line joining the two nations' grids, Prysmian writes in a statement Wednesday.

"When completed in the coming years, NeuConnect will join the world’s longest interconnectors," writes Hakan Ozmen, executive vice president of Projects at Prysmian:

"Moreover, it is one of the first interconnectors to be financed through a project financing arrangement, demonstrating that the major infrastructure projects needed to deliver the sustainable energy goals in Europe are supported by private investment."
