Wärtsiläs energy division burst a leak in 2019

A weak market, budget overruns and fickle investors burdened Wärtsilä in 2019, when profit fell by 43.5 percent. The company's energy division had a particularly rough time, mainly brought about by under-performing gas turbine sales.

Despite the fact that Wärtsilä's power plant and energy storage solutions are land-based, the energy division's hull cracked into a leak last year, while the Finnish group's marine division, conversely, managed to keep itself afloat, shows Wärtsilä's 2019 annual financial report.
