The European Commission has proposed a phase-out of Russian oil over the course of the next six months in connection with the latest package of sanctions against Russia. The sanctions comprise a direct response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, this has led Russia to assess various options, he remarks Wednesday in response to EU’s oil sanctions.

At the same time, Peskov denies that a mobilization is planned for May 9 when Russia commemorates the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany during World War II.

At present, Russia continues to call the invasion of Ukraine a ”special military operation.”

According to Peskov, the notion of mobilizing forces on May 9 comes out of thin air.

”There is no chance of that. It’s nonsense,” he says.
