Russia to resume gas supply to Europe from Siberia
Russia is prepared to resume natural gas supply to Europe by way of the the Yamal-Europa pipeline, says Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on Sunday to news agency Tass.
”The European market remains relevant, because a gas deficit remains, and we have all capabilities to restore supplies,” Novak said;
”For example, the Yamal-Europe pipeline, shut down over political motives, remains unused.”
At the same time, the deputy PM noted that Russia estimates having supplied 21 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas to Europe throughout 2022.
Yamal-Europe, extending roughly 4,100 kilometers, is able to transmit up to 33 million cubic meters of gas from sources on Russian peninsula Yamal and western Siberia through Belarus into Poland and Germany.
In late April, Russia’s Gazprom announced halting gas supply to Poland and Bulgaria through the pipeline in response to the two nations’ refusal to pay in Russian rubles.
A few weeks later, Gazprom announced halting gas flow through Poland on account of Western sanctions against Russian companies.
Polish Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa said at the time that the country would be able to make do without supply from Yamal-Europe.
