Electricity prices prompt Germans to reactivate old coal-fired power plant

On Sunday, the Germans reactivated its old coal-fired power plant, Jänschwalde, in order to compensate for rising electricity prices.

The Jänschwalde power plant, which has a capacity of 500MW, was shut down in 2018 as part of the green transition in Germany. But now Germans have been forced to turn the plant back on due to low temperatures and rising electricity prices, to boost supplies and thus ease power strains during the winter, writes Norwegian business media Finansavisen, citing Bloomberg.
