Denmark pauses offshore wind tender

Muddy seabed conditions have prompted the nation's authorities to pause the Hesselø tender of up to 1.2 GW indefinitely. A hard blow, says sector lobby, calling for action elsewhere.

Denmark's forthcoming offshore wind project, Hesselø, will not be tendered as planned this year. Contradicting an earlier site screening, transmission system operator Energinet's preliminary assessments now show soft clay sediment on the seabed, especially on the top 20-30 meters of the designated project site. This could result in technical difficulties during installation, the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) reports in a statement on the decision.
