IEA warns of Chinese dominance in solar market

China is cementing its dominance across the solar value chain, being poised to increase its share of the market from 80% to 95% in just a few years. This threatens the global green transition, warns the IEA in new report.

China deserves praise for banking heavily on solar technology while the rest of the world hesitated. This has pushed down prices to a level that has rendered solar the cheapest source of renewable technology globally.

But the praise ends here, as China has also cemented its status as a dominating player in the market, nearly laying claim to the entire supply chain of materials needed for solar projects.
