EU to speed up licensing of renewable energy projects

Armed with a new emergency directive ordered by the union’s heads of state and government, the EU Commission plans to expedite licensing of wind, solar, and heat pump additions as a part of efforts to rapidly achieve energy sovereignty.

Licensing procedures need simplifying to accelerate the renewable energy build-out, concluded the European Council in a meeting held in Brussels on Oct. 20 – the aim being to both ensure cheaper energy sources and wean the EU off Russian fuel imports as quickly as possible.
