The US and France have formed a united front to expand green energy in a fair and just manner, say presidents Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron after a long meeting in Washington Thursday.

At a subsequent press conference, Biden and Macron expressly agreed on a joint push to help expand ”clean energy”.

A dispute regarding the massive economic support for the US’ green economy has played a crucial role up to and during the French president’s visit to Washington.

Europeans fear that Biden will grant US companies unfair advantages at a time when the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis are sources of severe problems in Europe.

”This is super aggressive for our business people. It will cost a lot of jobs in Europe,” Macron told members of the US Congress and business leaders shortly after arriving in the US Wednesday.

However, Biden says that after Thursday’s meetings with his French counterpart there is agreement about ”harmonizing” the two nation’s climate and corporate policies.

”We agreed to discuss practical steps to coordinate and align our approaches so that we can strengthen and secure the supply chains, manufacturing, and innovation on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Biden at a joint press conference with Macron:

”We’re going to continue to create manufacturing jobs in America but not at the expense of Europe.”

”We want to succeed together, not one against the other,” said Macron:

”We will continue to move forward as Europeans. ... We came to agree on a strategy and to clarify what was necessary to clarify, and we did.”
