While a delegation comprised of the Danish royal family, two Danish ministers and a string of business representatives is on a promotion tour in India, the populous nation prepares to tender 4GW offshore wind, informs the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities in a press release.

Political Director with the Confederation of Danish Industry Emil Fannikke Kiær is a part of the ongoing promotion tour. He describes the future tender as a great opportunity for a country in dire need of sustainable energy solutions.

”India faces some real challenges within energy supply, but they have chosen to face the music and set some ambitious mitigation targets,” he says.

There are currently no offshore wind turbines in India, but the Indian government has ambitions to install 30GW offshore wind by 2030, writes Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities.

Senior Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at Vestas Morten Dyrholm represents the Danish turbine maker on the promotion tour.

”Naturally, that is something we keep a close eye on as a global player,” he says.

”Especially the southern part of the country has potential and a lot of great wind resources. Many of the Indian cities are placed along the coasts where electricity demand will be massive in coming years.”

”So it makes sense to utilize those resources to help India reach its climate targets,” says Dyrholm.
