The Dutch Military Intelligence and Security Service (MVID) informed the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) about Ukrainian plans of blowing up the gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2 three months prior to the explosions.

CIA then urged Ukraine’s government not to complete such an operation, according to Dutch television broadcaster NOS, German broadcaster ARD, and German newspaper Die Zeit.

It is still unclear who was in charge of the explosions at Nord Stream 1 and 2 in September last year.

CIA warned Ukraine ”after having received an alarming report from the Dutch Military Intelligence and Security Service, which became aware of the plans through Ukrainian sources,” writes NOS.

Last week, The Washington Post wrote that CIA had been tipped about the Ukrainian plans from a European intelligence agency, but the news outlet did not inform which country the agency belonged to.

The Dutch defense minister, Kajsa Ollongren, has denied commenting the new information.

”I cannot comment on the work of our intelligence services,” she told journalists at a press meeting in Amsterdam.

She adds that the incident is being investigated by Germany, Sweden, and Denmark.

Nord Stream 1 and 2, seabed-located gas pipelines built to transport natural gas from Russia to Germany, were hit by explosions in September last year.

The blasts took place in both Denmark’s and Sweden’s exclusive economic zones, meaning the two countries have the right to investigate the seabed in these regions.

After the explosions, Russia, the US and Ukraine were all accused of being responsible. Each has denied any involvement in the incident.

Previously in June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied that Ukraine played any part in the explosions.

According to the plan presumably intercepted by MVID, Ukrainian top general Valerii Zaluzhnyi was in charge of the operation that involved a small team of divers using a sail boat.

NOS writes that Zelensky had no knowledge of the plan.

The Dutch broadcaster adds that it has spoken to several international intelligence sources in collaboration with the aforementioned German media.
