Three Dutch solar farms have found buyers for their power production.
Vattenfall announces that it has entered power purchasing agreements (PPA) for three projects in Torenweg, Emmeloord and Uden, totalling 38 MW in capacity. The first two farms of 14 and 12 MW farms are owned by Danish investor Obton, while the last will be installed by TPSolarKonzept and the municipality of Uden.
In Uden, the electricity will be used directly by the citizens of the municipality via Vattenfall's digital trading platform Powerpeers.
"Our solution not only makes it possible to buy solar power, but it also makes it possible to support your local solar farmer. Our over-all ambition is to help our customers to become fossil free and this is an example of our cutting-edge knowledge in this area," says Martijn Hagens, Head of Customers & Solutions at Vattenfall in the press release.
Already a significant instrument on the US renewables market for decades, PPAs have also emerged as a more frequent phenomenon in Europe. In November, for example, Vattenfall was on the other side of the counter in the Netherlands when Microsoft drew up a contract with the Swedish firm to receive power from the upcoming 295 MW wind farm Wieringermeer.
The Netherlands, which risks not living up to its climate targets for 2020, has recently launched significant renewables projects, both within wind, which in addition to the aforementioned onshore wind farm has also made deals regarding several GW of offshore wind, but also within solar, where more than 800 MW was connected to the grid last year.
