Siemens follows Vestas into new battery project

Europe will face a major storage deficit within a few years, warns Siemens. The company is both investing directly and committing itself to be large customer is the future of a Swedish project, which will use its own digitalization equipment.

The Swedish Northvolt project has landed yet another investor. Siemens has entered a partnership for the development of next-generation lithium-ion batteries. This is part being done via a EUR 10 million direct investment and also by indicating Northvolt as a preferred supplier as soon as production begins. In return, the Swedish company has committed itself to use Siemens' digitalization system.
