PensionDanmark still confident in offshore wind returns despite price squeeze

In August, when Copenhagen Infrastructure partners with its unexpectedly low bid won the auction for what will be the US's first large-scale offshore wind project, it enjoyed a great deal of capital support from Danish pension provider PensionDenmark. Low prices are not causing the pension company to doubt the potential of offshore wind energy.

Being an establishing investor in Danish Infrastructure Fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has been more than lucrative for pension provider PensionDanmark. In 2017, the pension company's infrastructure investments – with the majority of its renewable energy funding taking place through CIP – contributed to securing returns at 12.8 percent. Returns from its CIP investments thereby outperformed PensionDanmark's investments in equity and real estate and have thus participated in securing a more comfortable retirement for the pension provider's members.
