Chinese loophole pressures European suppliers

European production of wind turbine towers is being threatened by unfair competition from China as well as from EU counteraction, say sources in the industry. We have fired staff and may have to do so again, says one manufacturer.

Chinese wind turbine tower manufacturers are having a waltz around Europe. The volume of imported wind turbine towers and comparable steel-based products has similarly increased by almost 25 percent in the period 2015-2017, shows an analysis made by Damvad Analytics at the behest of Danish wind industry association Vindmølleindustrien.
