Oil major buys further into US offshore wind
New Jersey is taking the next step toward installing 3.5 GW of offshore wind capacity but is also terminating an MHI Vestas project. The developer is now picking up the pieces along with Shell and forging much larger plans.
Shell has seriously started to flex its muscles in the US offshore wind energy industry. Only a few days after having spent approximately USD 138 million on a 512 square kilometer project site off the coast of Massachusetts, the oil company is now investing again in an roughly 44 percent larger area further to the south. In a new joint venture, Shell and French utility EDF have just purchased US Wind's 742 km2 licensed site in New Jersey waters, the partners inform in a press release.
