Japanese player buys stakes in Ørsted wind farms

In the latest of several recent steps toward cultivating offshore wind energy in Japan, a domestic joint venture is investing in two projects which will provide experience in building and operating offshore wind turbines.

Taiwanese offshore wind project Formosa 1 is now getting yet another owner. Roughly two years after Swancor and Macquarie sold 35 percent of the project to Ørsted, Japanese energy company JERA is now also buying a stake from the original owers. The company, a joint venture between Chubu Electric Power and Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO), is acquiring a 32.5 percent share of the 120 MW project.
