New Zealand-based project developer Mercury has nominated Vestas to supply equipment to its domestic project, Turitea, the former discloses in a press release.

The 119 MW project will cost a rough total of NZD 256 million (EUR 154 million). The developer writes in the statement that it has awarded Vestas an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract as well a long-term service deal.

Mercury plans to eventually install a total of 60 wind turbines, but the initial phase will get started with 33 machines. According to the statement, the entire facility – everything from transmission cables and other infrastructure – will be scaled to accommodate the remaining 28 wind turbines within the Turitea site as well as a nearby facility, where Mercury plans to erect a further 53 turbines.

"The estimated NZD 256 million project supports the opening up of a further NZD 750 million investment opportunity in wind energy development," writes Mercury Chief Executive Fraser Whitney in the statement.

Construction is planned to be begin in August 2019.

Mercury also owns a 19 percent share of Australian company Tilt Renewables, which also develops projects its home country as well as New Zealand.

Tilt Renewables received informed that it has purchased a stake in onshore wind project Liverpool Range from its former developer, Epuron. Liverpool Range has received zoning and environmental approvals and will consist of 267 wind turbines with capacity totaling 1,000 MW.
