Statkraft constructs new hydropower plant in disputed location

The Norwegian company intends to construct a new hydropower plant, Los Lagos, whose location is close to the city of Osorno. Last fall, Statkraft was forced to postpone hydropower plant constructions following protests from indigenous Mapuche.

State-owned Norwegian energy company Statkraft has decided to initiate construction of hydropower plant Los Lagos by the Pilmaiquén River in Chile, 900 kilometers south of Santiago and close to the existing Rucatayo power plant, the company announces in a press release.
