US' first offshore wind farm put on hold

US federal authorities have ordered an extra environmental impact report for Vineyard Wind. Last month, the consortium said this would make developing the offshore wind farm "very challenging". CIP and Avangrid have now put the project on hold indefinitely.

The fate of the US' first commercial-scale offshore wind farm is now hurled into uncertainty. After the Federal Department of the Interior (DOI) decided to order an expanded Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), project owners Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Avangrid have opted to pause development. The new time table remains undisclosed.
