Vineyard Wind LLC, owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Iberdrola's US subsidiary Avangrid, is not inclined to drop a 800 MW project off the coast of Massachusetts despite it being delayed earlier in this month.

Rather, the company will instead double the project's size to 1,600 MW in a proposed second phase, according to Bloomberg News.

The second phase has been given the name "Vineyard Wind 2", and the company is "very excited" to submit the proposal for this expanded project, Vineyard Wind LLC Chief Executive Lars Pedersen writes in an email, according to Bloomberg News.

The new project phase does not yet have a timeline, but the first stage was originally slated to be finished in early 2022.

Earlier in August, Vineyard Wind LLC had otherwise postponed the first phase indefinitely, when US Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt demanded an additional environmental investigation following complaints from local residents and the US National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).

"It is clear that the timing of such an analysis is not compatible with the original timeline that has been communicated to Vineyard Wind since March 2018, which Vineyard Wind used to build its delivery schedule," the company stated on Aug. 12.
