Warren Buffett is backing a forthcoming zero-subsidy 117.6MW wind farm in Canada dubbed Rattlesnake Ridge.

This is being accomplished by means of a power purchase agreement with a "large Canadian business partner", which will buy the majority of the facility's electricity.

The wind farm is being installed in Alberta, will consist of 28 turbines and is set to enter operation in December 2021.

Berkshire Hathaway Energy subsidiary BHE Canada – controlled by known tycoon Warren Buffett – is funding the project.

"The Rattlesnake Ridge Wind project is a leader in the development of new grid-scale wind generation in Alberta, being constructed and operated without government subsidies. BHE Canada is excited to take this first step into the Alberta market, providing low-cost, renewable energy. We’re looking forward to more opportunities to invest in Alberta’s energy industry," writes William Christensen, vice president of Corporate Development at BHE Canada.

The project will carry a price tag of roughly USD 200 million and will be developed by company Renewable Energy Systems (RES). The two companies are presently looking for PPA partners for another project in Alberta with a potential capacity of 398.5 MW. If manifested, this project will become the largest of its kind in the North American country.
