Siemens Gamesa future-proofs Danish blade factory

By investing more than EUR 40 million in two new production halls, the turbine maker is able to construct blades for both its coming 11 MW model and the next generation of wind turbines.

In recent years, the future hasn't looked bright for Siemens Gamesa's blade factory in Aalborg, Northern Denmark. Several layoff rounds culminated in September, when the entire production of onshore turbine blades was halted and 600 employees were fired. But any fears that the factory is heading for a phase-out were put to shame on Friday, when establishment of production halls 12 and 13 was initiated.
