Siemens Gamesa has won a supply contract for 78 MW headed to what will become Vietnam's largest nearshore wind project.

The deal pertains 18 model SG 5.0-145 units with an attached ten-year service agreement, Siemens Gamesa informs in a press statement.

With this order, the OEM has now landed nearshore project contracts for a combined effect of 174 MW and 550 MW in total over the last five years.

The wind farm is set to go online in the third quarter of 2021.

Vietnam is banking more and more on wind power, and this means stiff competition among two sector heavyweights, Siemens Gamesa and Vestas.

As recently as Tuesday this week, Vestas announced winning an order for 50 MW in the Southeast Asian country, thereby bringing the Danish OEM's Vietnamese 2020 order pipeline up to 635 MW.
