Ørsted has submitted a bid for an offshore wind project in the US, the company informs in a press release.

The 760MW project will be located in the state of Maryland, which Ørsted already describes itself as a long-term partner for.

"We are proud to build, own, and operate wind farms across the world and will bring that same approach to Maryland. As such, these [are, -ed] at least 30-year commitments," says CEO of Ørsted Offshore North America David Hardy in the press release.

A decision is scheduled for December 2021.

The project, which Ørsted has submitted a bid for, is set up by the State of Maryland's Public Service Commission, which will develop Skipjack Wind 2.

Ørsted is currently developing Skipjack Wind 1, a 120MW project off the coast of Maryland-Delaware. The project is set to become operational in Q2 of 2026. Ørsted was awarded the project back in May of 2017.

The new bid is part of Maryland’s second round solicitation for offshore projects, and the commission can award Offshore Renewable Energy Certificates (ORECs) for offshore wind capacity of at least 1,200MW.
