As most sector competitors, Ørsted is nourishing hope of winning a portion of US offshore wind licenses sent to tender this year, but the Danish utility will take a sober approach and not pursue wins at any cost, reports Danish business daily Børsen.

”We are excited about the coming lease auction in the US. Whether we win or not will depend on price level, and we have a very clear perspective on what counts as a sustainable price. As to how this appears compared to rivals, we’ll have to wait and see,” says Ørsted Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Martin Neubert to the media.

Wednesday, a big auction of six offshore wind site licenses will commence, with winners gaining an entry ticket of sorts to develop wind power at sea in the country.

This round comes as the first of several site lease tenders to be held in the US in the coming years.
