Ørsted ready to lose happily in New York tender

The Danish power company expects to have a reasonable chance at winning the impending US site lease auction, but if prices are anywhere near what BP was willing to throw down at last year's English solicitation, Ørsted will not not hesitate to wish its rivals good luck, states CEO.

When the auction for the next series of offshore wind licenses is held in two weeks time, Ørsted's participation will be that of a wildcard – in the sense that unlike most of the other 24 prequalified bidders vying for parcels of New York Bight, the Danish utility and global market leader is not going by its own name in the process. Last month, the group confirmed its participation in a comment to EnergyWatch, although without revealing the company name behind the candidacy.
